Who We Are
Ludvik was born in Prague, Czech Republic. He has a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Czech Technical University in Prague. In the early 1990s, he and his American wife Laura moved to the USA, where they lived for 9 years in Ann Arbor and Chicago. This was followed by 3 years in Prague, Czech Republic. In 2005 they moved with their two daughters to Perth, Australia, where they still live today and where Laura teaches at Murdoch University.
In 2005, they started a small, US-based bicycle tour operating company, which Ludvik has been running ever since. The company, Czech Active Tours, offers fully escorted, unique bike tours in Europe. Ludvik spends (European) summers in Europe where he runs his tours. The rest of the time he works as a freelance translator and interpreter. He has translated several books from English to Czech over the years, including The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer, the bible of the terrible period of the Third Reich in the 1930s’ and 1940s’.
In his childhood, Ludvik competed in track and field, eventually switching to soccer. Later on, he also played amateur ice hockey. He loves and does many others sports and outdoor activities. In the late 1990s, Ludvik did his first triathlon in Chicago as a result of a bet he made at a party. After he moved to Australia, triathlon became his main hobby and he has been racing for over 10 years now. In 2012, he qualified to compete in the world championships in New Zealand, where he competed as an age grouper for the Czech Republic.
Loves dogs, adventure, flying small planes or paragliders, tennis, cycling and food (maybe too much sometimes). He lives in Sussex, United Kingdom.
